Dr. Rick Neeley holds the academic rank of Professor of Communication Disorders and serves as Department Chair of Communication Disorders at Arkansas State University. He joined the ASU faculty in 1987 as an instructor and clinical supervisor and assumed the position of Program Director in July of 2001. A long-time goal of Dr. Neeley and the CD faculty was realized on July 1st, 2008, when the "Program in" became the "Department of" and Dr. Neeley became Department Chair. His teaching interests have always included normal language acquisition, assessment and treatment of language disorders in children, and augmentative/alternative communication. Recent research interests have included the functional use of play as a language intervention strategy, discipline infractions of public school students with communication disorders, and phonological processing skills of students in early elementary grades. Dr. Neeley enjoys a number of hobbies and interests outside of university life. He is an owner of American Quarter Horses that he races (with modest success) in Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas. He is a volleyball fanatic, and raised two talented daughters of university play caliber! He is also a talented guitarist and has a magnificent baritone voice. He is frequently asked to sing at weddings, and if you get him anywhere near a karaoke machine, you will be in for a treat!
