SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

L.H. STERNHEIMER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

IN COMMUNICATION DISORDERS

 

ASU FOUNDATION, INC.

 

AMOUNT AND TERM OF AWARD:

A minimum award of $400 per semester for one academic year, provided funds are available.  The amount of the award may increase as funds are available.  Applicants should apply using the general application for Privately Funded Scholarships as part of the application for admission.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIP:

·         Jonesboro High School graduating senior with a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average who plans to enroll in Arkansas State University the following fall semester.

·         Pursuing a degree in College of Nursing and Health Professions majoring in Communication Disorders.

·         Preference shall be given to students specializing in deaf and hearing impaired.

·         In the event there are no incoming freshman, then award may go to any graduate of Jonesboro High School (sophomore, junior, or senior level) who otherwise qualifies.

·         In the event there are no qualified recipients for the above, the award shall be designated to the Sternheimer Family Scholarship in Music following appropriate criteria guidelines.

·         Recipient should demonstrate citizenship as evidenced by sound moral character, good social-emotional adjustment and participation in extracurricular activity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR MAINTAINING SCHOLARSHIP:

Full-time student (12 hours) with a minimum 3.0 overall GPA (3.0/4.0 scale).

SELECTION MADE BY:

Communication Disorders Scholarship Committee.  If no applicant meets criteria, the Financial Aid Scholarship Coordinator shall be notified to forward criteria to Department of Music. 

OTHER COMMENTS:

Financial Aid will send a copy of the award letter to the Jonesboro High School Counselor.  Communication Disorders will represent ASU at the JHS Awards Night Program to present a certificate.  A brochure containing biographical sketches and photographs of the L.H. Sternheimer Family shall be distributed at the Awards Night Program and made available to the appropriate university departments.
